Using Microphone-Frequently Asked Questions

Solve 90% of the problems when using mics!

How to adjust the noise floor of the microphone? How to solve the buzz sound? As a beginner, do you have questions when you use the microphone? We got you! Today's article will solve 90% of your microphone problems!

How to connect the microphone to the computer?

If the mic supports digital output, we can use a USB cable to connect the computer and the microphone. The computer will automatically recognize the microphone device through the USB digital output;

If your microphone only supports analog output, we use 3.5mm TRS-TRRS to connect the microphone to the computer. macOS will recognize the microphone as an "external microphone" and automatically set it as the default microphone device. On Windows, we need to right-click the small speaker icon, choose ”Sound”/ “Recording”, then set your external mix as the default mic.

How to solve the high noise floor when the microphone is connected to the camera/ computer / mobile phone?

Camera

When using 2.4G wireless microphones with cameras, the ‘auto volume level’ needs to be turned off.

With Sony, Panasonic, and Fuji cameras, it is recommended to use impedance audio cables. For Sony and Fuji cameras, the sound should not exceed 5, and the volume of Panasonic cameras should not exceed -12dB.

*When we adjust the volume, the microphone output gain should be adjusted first, when the mic cannot achieve the desired sound, then we set the sound on camera.

Computer

First, we need to make sure the recording environment is relatively quiet and the connection steps are correct. We can monitor the microphone, and adjust the microphone gain until the noise floor is within an acceptable range. Then monitor the sound on the computer, and adjust the input volume of the streaming software to an acceptable range to solve the noise floor problem.

*It is best to plug the microphone directly into the interface on the back of the chassis. When using it, the microphone should be farther away from the host to prevent fan noise from being recorded.

Phone

The phone does not have a separate input volume adjustment. We recommend turning down the volume of the phone when recording.

Why cannot get the audio when using the digital output on my phone?

To solve this, we should make sure the OTG function is enabled. And check all the adapters to see if they are with the OTG function.

Can the microphone be used while charging?

If the microphone supports charging while using, you can use the power bank to charge the mic. It's not a good choice to use AC power or AC to DC power for charging, it will produce current sound and affect the battery life of the microphone.

When the microphone occupies the charging port of the phone, how to charge my phone?

You can use a docking station with a power port, or an adapter that splits the power and audio ports in two. If your device supports wireless charging, you can also charge your phone at a wireless charging bank

*For devices with the Lightning interface, MFI-certified adapters should be selected.

Why does safety channel mode not support TRRS output?

Because in the safety channel mode, there are one normal audio track and one safety audio track, and the TRRS audio interface can only handle one audio track.

Can I have a stereo track when I only use one transmitter?

A stereo track means there are two tracks being recorded, that is to say, when monitoring, the left, and right ear hear the different sounds of the two transmitters. So we cannot achieve stereo track when we only use one transmitter.

How to reduce the wind noise?

When using the microphone outdoors, you can wear a windscreen and wind muff on the microphone to reduce wind noise; if the microphone has a low-cut function, you can use this function to remove low-frequency noise and wind noise.
