Distance affects the quality of sound from the source that will go into the recording. What is the recommended distance from the sound source to the mic? Let's check it:

Lavalier Mic / Built-in Mic of Wireless System

Due to the equipped omnidirectional mic capsule, these two mics are susceptible to ambient noise when recording. Therefore, we should pin the two mics closer to the sound source. A 10cm mic distance from the sound source for them is perfect!

Cardioid or super-cardioid shotgun mic has a narrower pickup range than omnidirectional mic and is less affected by ambient noise. So, to avoid the proximity effect and get better audio, we can put the shotgun mic about 50cm away from the sound source.

Studio mic generally picks up good sound within 50cm. If you want to boost the low-frequency part of the sound and make your voice fuller, you can place the mic closer to your mouth. A boom stand and pop-shield can help a lot in this situation.

Last but not the least, we still have to test several times to find the sweet spot before recording.
